Returned from Exile: Verdi's 'A Masked Ball' in Stockholm

THE INTRO

THE HIT SINGLE: "Ma dall'arido stelo ..."

In Act Two, Amelia (soprano Emma Vetter) searches out the special herb that will rid her of her illicit love for Riccardo. In a tense aria -- singing "But, when I pick the dry stem" -- she hesitates to use it, fearing the loss of her passion for Gustavo.

THE B SIDE: "O, qual soave brivido"

After Amelia's aria, King Gustavo (tenor Andrea Caré) joins her. They confess their love for each other, and Gustavo begins their thrilling duet with the words "Oh, Sweet Thrill."
