Alisa Weilerstein

alisa weilersteinALISA WEILERSTEIN (cello) has, at a young age, established herself as a dedicated chamber musician, performed with the nation's top orchestras, given recitals throughout the United States and Europe, and appeared at prestigious festivals. She makes her debuts this season with the Boston and Chicago symphony orchestras, also performing with The Cleveland Orchestra, Dallas and National symphony orchestras and the New York Philharmonic, among other engagements. Abroad, she will appear as a guest soloist with the Hamburg Philharmonic, the Hallé Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestra and Slovenia Philharmonic, and will give several recital tours in Italy. Alisa Weilerstein was awarded Lincoln Center's Martin E. Segal prize in 2008 and the Leonard Bernstein Award in 2006, and was the recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2000. She is a graduate of Cleveland Institute of Music's Young Artist Program and earned a degree in Russian History at Columbia University. In November 2009 she was invited to take part in a classical music workshop and concert at the White House. Weilerstein, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was nine, is a Celebrity Advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This is her seventh season at Spoleto Festival USA.
